A few years ago I started shaving with straight razors and pretty much stopped using my nice collection of mostly vintage DE razors. Now I?ve started using the DE razors again every other day. You can really see why the safety razor caught on. Does anybody else do a straight/DE rotation?
Yep, been doing that a few years now. With the right DE and blade and experience you can come frightenly close to a straight shave.
I do occasionally use a DE, mostly when I'm in a hurry.I'm especially partial to the adjustables, not because I adjust it since I picked my setting but because you can to get the desired level of aggression(?)...aggresiveness maybe is the better word?
Also, lately I have been playing around with a Rolls Razor which is really a straight razor on a stick but it is like using an SE.
Although it might not be conventional, you might try using BOTH a straight and a DE razor in the same shave. There is nothing like a straight razor to mow down multiple days of beard growth. A mild DE razor eqipped with a super sharp blade is ideal for buffing strokes to finish off a BBS shave. Try both; you might like it.
The beard on my neck grows thick, coarse and the grain goes every which way. I can’t always find the right position for my straight to mow the grain in some places. That’s when I finish off with a DE.
My beard is like wire so I use a fairly sharp blade with my adjustable DE set on the highest setting, but with a light touch and it works. Otherwise, I would have to be contortionist to get my straight in the right position for AGT on my neck, which I do occasionally when I feel inspired or have a lot of time.
I too use many types of Razors depending on what I feel like that day. Straight, DE, SE, Injector, Repeater, Shavette. When you can use any type of razor and get a great shave I figure you have mastered shaving. With over 300 razors of all types I like to change it up.

I stopped using a straight razor a few years ago when I started having issues with my hands. I have used DEs/SEs since that time. My shaves are still excellent, but I do miss the routine involved with using a straight razor.

Like the other Gents here, I will on occasion use a DE (Mekur 34C) when I'm in a hurry. Otherwise, it is a straight razor for me. For me, the best time to shave is in the evening. You go outside and smoke a good cigar, have a shot of Irish Whiskey, take a shower and the then have a nice hot lather shave with a straight razor. After that, there's when a hot women comes into play. However, it doesn't always have to be in that order. Life is good! Enjoy the journey!
Being a Corporate Pilot i use to travel a lot, during my trips around the world I usually bring one of my DEs.
At home I use the Strainght Ones.
