Who does the best grinding?

I am awaiting the arrival of a set of G. Buck (Sheffield) razors that have never been ground. They have no original edge. So I need someone who can put on an original edge and make it shave-ready? Who does this kind of work? Any one you would recommend?

The razor absolutely does not look like it will need a re-grinding, it will most likely just need to be honed (unless there is something significant that I am not seeing in the picture). There are many members who can do this service for you including Lynn, Josh, myself and others. Joe Chandler is the go-to guy for re-grinding, but that is usually for razors that have more issues than the one pictured.

Just so I am clear, it appears that this is a 'blank,' with no initial edge ground in. Are you saying that all it needs is to be honed? That no extensive grinding is needed in preparation for putting on a shave ready edge?

Yep, you mean honing. That looks like a NOS blade, no grinding needed there!

This is good to know, thanks. Means I can get these out quicker and back and start shaving with them.

Agree. Does not appear to be any reason to grind in a bevel on this one.

It's not like trying to put a bevel into blank western deba, more like putting a new bevel on a Tekada nakiri. I got a couple razors in that condition and it didn't tak to long to but the new bevel on it. One was a bear as the blade was ground in a bit off center... that one saw the DMT 320 /grrrr

Once I received it, I can see that it has an edge, just not a bevel. So I am thinking honing it will not be a major project.

BTW I just emailed Murray Carter to see if he ever intended to make razors and he said he might. He related that while in Japan, he used a straight razor for two years to learn how to sharpen knives. No wonder he can put those darn small bevels and make his blades that darn sharp!!!!!
