I would make the observation that the point style is probably the part I'd be least likely to compromise on. I could live with ATS or Damascus since both are good steels and hold an edge well. And I could compromise on the scale material since that's mostly aesthetics (although at the price this will turn out to be, aesthetics might count more than it would for a lower cost razor). But the point style is a very personal thing... and affects the shaveability of the razor, at least for me. I own various point styles, but I only like one of the styles and that's predominantly what I use in my limited rotation. YMMV
and since you brought it up what would that be? I can use all of them but I hate round points. The rest I like.
I specifically left that out so the poll results wouldn't be influenced/skewed. I'm sure the early razor manufacturers made all these different points for a reason... their customers preferred them over the others. I'd think everyone could be satisfied if there was a choice between a square point of some type and a round point.
If this is to be a group buy where no profit is being made then volumn sales would probably not bring the cost down on these things. I think the aim should be to put as many of these things into the hands of people who normally might never buy one. For many of us if we want a fancy razor with fancy scales at some point we will probably buy what we want anyway. Of course if there is enough response maybe we can have a dual track buy. A basic one and a high dollar version. How about that?
