Beau Brummel Razors!!!!

Two new ones for the collection, I just finished polishing them up, not too much to do on these actually, just some quick polishing and they needed to slide over the hones and strops.... Unfortunately it is my beard trimming weekend so I don't get to try them out until Monday morning :)

These are both stamped Beau Brummel #35 and Brummel-Werk Solingen
Here is what I found so far on the brand...

BRESDUCK INC.
224 Canal Street, New York City
Also used trademarks "DUBL-DUCK", "LIFETIME", "NAPOLEON", "BEAU BRUMMEL", "DEUTSCH", "SATINEDGE"
ca. 1930 - 1952; firm became known as Pearlduck in 1952

The first one has the black and yellow scales and has a 5/8 spike point blade...

I have 2 Beau Brummels and both are some of my favorites. They really are great razors that don't get near as much the credit. I think the Dubl Ducks keep these razors in the shadows. Thats okay though, more for you and I :y

See... now you need to build a second cabinet for the Beau's... and while you are at it... a third one for me! :w

Actually beau brummel has an interesting history. Originally they were sold and distributed by a variety of sellers in the U.S. Bresnick sold them along with the Vesuvius and Napoleon and a few other brands. After WWll Pearlduck became the exclusive distributer for beau brummel and you will see those razors have on the tang, instead of beau brummel Werk they say beau brummel razors, Jamaica N.Y. The Box has the same address as Pearl Duck. So the question is, did beau brummel manufacture all the popular DD razors during the pearlduck era?

An update to this thread I have shaved with both of these now....
I have found them to be every bit as good as my DD's....And just as easy to sharpen... Very nice razors!!!:y

Those are nice Glen! Gonna have to keep my eyes open for some....

Here's a couple. The first is a 13/16 Brummel-werk 40. The second is a 5/8 Beau Brummel 35, which is mid-restoration.

There was one like your 5/8 on e-bay last week I was going to get serious on bidding, but I didn't like the toe wear on that blade... yours looks nice and straight.... beautiful razors !!!!!

I picked up the 35 a couple months ago on ebay for pretty cheap. It had a fair amount of rust and light pitting spread evenly over both sides of the blade. Most of it is gone after sanding with 100 grit for 20-30 minutes per side. I'm debating whether to keep going with the 100 or start moving up now. I don't want to take off too much metal. I love the scales on most of the Brummels that I've seen.

I learn something new here every time I log on and go surfing thru threads of interest.

Am I understanding you guys right - Brummel-Werk is related to Double Duck's in some way? Whoa, what a nice "pedigree". What is the family tree? Who came first as far as razors?

And I will assume the father made mine and others, then the son added to the line at a point after his dad left? And Double Duck's were some of those "additions" in later years?

Newbie questions - sorry! :shrug:

Nice! I particularly like the first one, I really dig the shape of the blade..!

Here is a Beau Brummel #44 5/8 Spike Point with faux ivory scales and detailed bottom bolster with the Top Hat Specticled character stating The Popular Trade Mark Beau Brummel. The verso of the bottom bolster is a stylized gold crown. Hammered tang also with bespeckled BB character and verso reads, Beau Brummel Cutlery Co New York. It was found at a Florida antique mall recently by me.

I know this is years later, but I just cleaned up a Beau Brummel, and I'm researching more about the company and the razor. Good info here, thanks.

They were one of many many Solingen based outfits.

Later on in the 1950s or so they entered into an arrangement with DD who became the sole distributor of their razors in the U.S

The later razors have the address of DD right on the razor while earlier ones don't and are marked Beau Brummel Werk which the later ones are not so marked.

I may need to add one this beautiful razors to my vintage rotation. The ones I have seen unfortunately had so much spine hone wear, but I will keep looking.
