I have seen Wade and Butchers going for anywhere from $35 -$250. Obviously (I think) a shave ready is worth more then one that is not, and I assume one that has been cleaned (even if not honed) is worth one that is not. But after that what makes the difference on the price?
Prices on W & B choppers seem to have gone crazy recently...a particularly nice one went for $380 recently on the bay.
On the other hand I saw a decent one that was listed as "for restoration" go for like $16...so there are still bargains if you shop carefully.

The reason I ask is I picked up a W & B Chopper on ebay by accident. It was one of four. It was also the only one that now looks salvageable. But I am wondering what I really have. When I posted on it a while back some one said it was probably made around 1890. At any rate here is the picture again
Good grab! Cleaned, honed and rescaled it would probably go for $75 more or less. Always difficult to say.

A very hard question to answer. I think some of the really expensive ones had some custom scales attached to them. However I would think that if you found one in mint condition including original scales that would command the top price. We as users like them clean and if they have been reinvented and had scales replaced thats fine with us but its the pure collectors who really drive the prices and any restoration or scale replacement actually drives down the prices to them.
I wouldn't spend more than 20 dollars as is, but fixed up there is no telling what I might spend.
I guess the answer is that it is worth what someone is willing to spend!
my thinking is that any razor is only worth whatever a person can get out of it on any given day. :thinking:
