hi, i have these 2 razors one is supposed to be civil war era, and the other is old dont know how old? ive been trying to find some info on them with no luck.
one says: "My Barbor, Lombard Co., St.Luis,MO" on it
and the other syas: on the blade U.S.S MAINE with a pic of the boat etched in it.
and on the side of spine by handle it says "665, efeild cutlery co., germany, magnatized"
Could we see pictures?
WELL, I'm not to sure those are 'civil war era' razors.
Perhaps in that they could have been made in the 1800's, yes.
However, a quick search on 'USS MAINE' gives this information:
"...Congress authorized her construction on August 3, 1886, and her keel was laid down on October 17, 1888, at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She was launched on November 18, 1889..."
Being that the Civil War (the US one that is) was between 1861–1865
I'm thinking thats the razor of the two that is not a civil war era razor....

The USS Maine blew up and was sunk in Havana Harbor February 15, 1898. It was a catalyst to start the Spanish American War. It was probably a commemorative razor for the launching. I would say it is a unique piece of Americana.Quote:

I think that during the Civil war period most razors were made either in the U.S or England. Germany didn't really get big in blade production until almost 1900. The fact that it says Germany on it and not Solingen as I recall means it was made for the domestic market in Germany.
