Some new aquisitions, any info?

Good afternoon, all. Picked up a couple real nice ones from the antique store last week, have been de-rusting and polishing them, and honing a bit. I'll put info and pix in seperate posts to minimize confusion.

I have already shaved with the Perfect Wizard, and it is fantastic! Lighter and more agile than my favorite Dovo, and sharp as the dickens with minimal effort. Haven't tried the Extra Hollow yet, will post when I have.

Anyone know anything about these blades, other than what I have posted?

First up, the Perfect Wizard. Made by A. Tredwar & Sons Hdwe. Co. in Dubuque, Iowa. Diamond spine, 4/4 blade with prominent barber's notch, worked jimps, plastic coated and appears to be broken. Suspect the blade has been rescaled as it is way too short for the scales it's in. Scales needed glue in lieu of bottom pin. 1/2 hollow grind.

Second up, the Extra Hollow Ground by Columbia Cutlery Co. in Worchester, Mass. Fully Warranted, Price $3.00. 5/8 spike point, lots of rust, (mostly came of with wire wheel) ZERO SPINE WEAR (meaning this is NOS) "singing" blade. Had no bevel set, took quite a lot of work on a rougher stone to get one going, after that it honed very easily. Steel seems to be much much harder than most of my other razors.

ok, shave review:
the perfect wizard shaves, well... perfectly. the fully hollow ground gave a nice comfy shave... but didn't remove any hair :rant: gotta reset the bevel on that one. still can't believe how good the perfect wizard is, it alone was worth the price of both of 'em.

nice looking blades! Looks like you did well at the antique store. When I visited our loca l store they told me that straights sell almost as fast as they come in.
