Silver Steel
Ok so i just bought my first razor, its a 1920's piece but is in great condition (still awaiting its arrival). up until now i've been using a shavette which obviously has machined blades - the blade on this new straight is "silver steel" now i claim to know nothing about metals and hence am probably asking a stupid question.. BUT.
What IS silver steel? is it different to stainless steel or just another name? does it make for a good blade, a bad blade? cheap blade, expensive blade? Are there and advantages or disadvantages of a "silver steel" blade, is it softer, requiring more stropping or honing, is it harder?
ANY information would be greatly appreciated.:)
You newbie from across the pond, Daniel

We now eagerly await rhodium and platinum steels to further enhance our shiny shaving experiences and which will give us a multitude of opportunities to question our metallurgical cognoscenti.
Drive on alloyers, drive on.
