Here are my 2 6/8 Gotta's. I didn't know where to put them, so I will show them off here. They say finest Sheffield steel ground in Germany. Pretty, aren't they?? And they shave like a dream!

The sphisticated soligens thread would be a good place, I would assume.
Oh wow, those look GOOOOOD!! How do they shave for you? I have an identical one, but 5/8, and it is without doubt my best shaver.
Where did you find 'em?
Excellent razors
I Gotta 5/8 super fine too. Nice razor. Not easy to hone up though. Thin blade.
The 6/8 are far from thin, that have a nice stiff grind!
Fred
Well - in my learned opinion (forget humble on this one), the 6/8 120 series Gottas have one of the best blades ever made, full stop. Singing edge, eat your heart out. Top Gun stuff and these are two beauties!
Mine is a 5/8 120 Gotta superfine. It is the same razor as the top one in the picture.
I don't know why the picture turned out like it did, but the two razors are identical! Must be one of them optical delusions;).

i was just given 2 of these knives... i dont know much (if anything about straight razors) and was wondering what the handles are made from and how old they are?
any tips on cleaning them
Well, there is only one Gotta in our SRDB so far: Gotta "120" 11/16 - Straight Razor Place Wiki - why not add yours, too?
Thanks for the link to submit razors to the database.
I have a Gotta 120(great razor BTW),but, it is exactly the same as the razor allready shown on the database. I do have quite a few other razors I will be adding.
Thanks Again M

I have a 5/8ths Gotta marked "Finest Sheffield Steel" and a 6/8ths marked "Best Silver Steel". They're not in as nice shape as yours, but they do shave beautifully.

I acquired a Gotta 120-series in a lot of 15 razors I bought for $225 on eBay. I think this single razor is worth what I paid for the whole batch. I almost sold it because I'm raising money for my wedding, but it simply has the finest workmanship of any blade I've owned. After I took down the auction (no one was bidding on my high minimum bid yet), I noticed that it said Finest Sheffield Steel, and since all my other keepers are chopper Wade & Butchers, I felt doubly glad I'd not let it get away.
Does anyone know when the 120 series was produced? I see it says Hamburg, rather than Solingen. But this looks like such a modern design, with the etching and gold washing. Has the Gotta company gone away like so many others?http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...&id=1249208983
Gentlemen,
Those pictures of the pair of Gotta razors are worth framing. A great find.
By the way, does anyone know the history and the pedigree of the Gotta razor?
Regards,
Obie
my daddy just this morning brought home a slightly rough version of this exact razor. $18aus at a swap meet, which is about $15us. it's in good nick, just needs a bit of a clean up and hone. can't wait to give it a go after all of these reviews!
I'm glad to see this thread. I had completely forgotten about my Gotta razors. I have a set and it was buried away somwhere behind the rest of my stash of razors. It's been a while since I shaved with one so it's going in queue for one of my next shaves. And yes, they are wicked sharp.
Nice!
This is mine:

Heres Mine bought by My Beautiful Alicia in a job lot of 34 Razors that hung in 3 frames on the wall of an old Barbers Shop
If I am to understand this thread, this one should be a keeper? a great shave and a valuable piece too?

Some one had a pair of Gottas for sale here several months ago. I kick myself for not buying them. Beautiful razors. If they're still out there...
I just bought one from Sham (hi_bud_gl). Very nice! I'll get some pictures up later today.

My first straight was a GOTTA 120 HAmburg ring that OLD_SCHOOL sold to me in the classifieds. It's still, to this day, in my top 3 razors and I love how they shave. I may need some more...
Love this thread.
Thanks for the info Honingman
and that 120 of yours is Stunning! looks like new
Awesome and thanks for sharing that too
I have a 120 Gotta with black scales, no logo on the scales. It shaves like a dream.
Thought id reuse this thread, but yeah i've seen a gotta razor on ebay, and the thing is, all of the gotta razors ive seen say ground in germany, but the one i see says ground in england?.
Were they made in both countries?.
Cheers Mark~
I felt the need to join in...
The top one is my most recent addition and is in the must be restored pile, as you can see, it needs a fair bit of cleaning, has anyone got any tips on cleaning the blade without loosing the goldwash or am I resigned to mirror finishing this little lovely and just admiring the plain but lovely scales?
The second it a little tarnished but still in good condition, and so far has shaved well, it is currently also my razor for refining honing.

Heh forgot to add the pictures and couldn't do it in edit

I have a question . does anyone else think my Flik 750 is very similar in appearance to the Gotta, They're both German made, both silver steel, and use a similar lettering on the shank (?) and if so is there any connection ?

Here is my Gotta 120 Superfine ... it's been less than a month since the factory edge was first honed (thanks Oz)
