Blade question
Guys, I've set myself the goal of either selling an instrument or just saving enough money to purchase a custom razor around Feb. 2009. Right now I'm using a Wapi, and was wondering how much of a difference a singing razor would make in the shave compared to what I have now. I want damascus, and also wonder if a thin blade could be done in it. I've been in contact with Don at SRD, and he asked what I was after, but aside from a straight spine and damascus steel, I don't have enough experience to know what sort of grind I want. I don't want to burden him too much, because I'm looking for a good amount of artistic license to go into the design. So, for a really good custom giving a really close shave... what's recomended? (I probably just opened up the floodgates...)

I don't know that any custom razor makers are grinding extra hollows on their own scratch blades. If any are, please chime in.

I have a 1/2 hollow from Mr. Harner. It shaves great and I love it. I also have another custom from Mr. Chandler. He does great work. I don't even know anything is touching my face when I shave with his. It isn't even a full hollow grind. I love it.

I would advise that you take the time to experiment with few razors (different grind and sizes) before you order your custom razor. Pattern wielded is pretty, but I don't think it's dramatically different than the components hardened the same way.
I think most makers only do single concave grind, but there was one who does full hollow. Most certainly there was a member who has such razor - check the show&tell and razors sections over the last 2 months and you'll find it.

oh, and I'm moving this thread to Razors where it'll get better attention.
