Does anyone have any information on Scottish straight razors.
I recently observed one, a 6/8 hollowground with Mcpherson Bros. on the shank.
Any information would be appreciated.

I only own one scottish razor but its a beauty, have it on display at my workplace right now but i will definately get a pic of it and post it.
regards,simon
Depends on what you term a Scottish razor. I don't think any were ever forged and ground in Scotland (and do correct me if I'm wrong) though I do have several that were obviously made for Scottish retailers, particularly in Glasgow, by Sheffield makers.
One of mine I just came across was William Landell, Glasgow - not much more info than that though I'm afraid!
I also own a Landell - actually on my restoration bench but I don't have more info on her...
I just picked up a McPhearson at a local antiques place. Said made in Germany on it also.
Got the camera to work, pics attached.
They should be the box (albeit with a couple of Kropps in) and a the razor.
It's world famous apparently - and probably going to be my first restore project.
Sorry no hard info though.
Cheers,
DK
The razor I saw was almost identical to the one you pictured.
Plan to go back and buy it tomorrow.
Thanks for your help.

I've recently come across a William Landell razor from some of my fathers stuff. Most likely his fathers.
Anyway, says William Landell, 106 Trongate, Glasgow with Silvan on the blade. Any info would be appreciated.
I was recently given a William Landell, 106 Trongate Glasgow. The blade was engraved with,
The Hamburg Ring

I appreciate the come back and am amazed that there are people like you that can get this kind of information. I couldn't find much on the company. Is there any way to know the time period of manufacture? I am trying to restore this razor to Shave ready. It has been a challenge thus far. I hope it turns out to be a good shave.
Here is a razor I picked up recently. It was marketed by John Kirkwood who was a 'hairdresser' operating at 12 Drummond St., Edinburgh, in the late 1800s. This model is called "The Drummond" and was made in Germany. I'm not sure how long Kirkwood operated at this address, but the place is still in business as a barber shop to this day.

I just got a McPherson Bros Frass razor. Always wanted a Scottish razor.
The only scot I have is by R.E. Wright & Co labeled "Glasgow Cross" on the shank and "The Favorit" etched on the blade. About an 11/16 round point with what appear to be bone scales.
Can anyone tell me the date the FRASS razors we produced by McPherson Bros?
I live about 20 miles away from Glasgow and just for some info 106 trongate Glasgow is a leather shop now on the bottom floor the rest of the building seem derelict I will try and acquire more information on the history of the making of the cut throat razors :) I know this an old post but I'm very interested in this since it's so close to home :) ...
