For the price, it sounds like you should snap it up and do a review. I'd do it, but it would cost 20x the price of the razor in shipping costs.

    Damn Canadian dollar.

Okay, it's gonna cost $9.00 bucks. What the heck. I've certainly lost a lot more than that taking a chance on an Ebay razor. The only thing, besides the Grampa speel that gets me to wonder about this razor are two things: The warning that it could be a while for shipping, and that they are 440 stainless steel. Usually that's the kiss of death with pocket knives and razors.

I have a Henckles Friodur, and it is my absolute best shaver, and it's stainless. Do I put this stainless in the same catagory with my Friodur? - of course not! - but, what the hey, look at it this way, you will get probably a decent pair of scales. Yes, I have bought a $10.00 dollar Chinese razor, knowing the blade (stainless) was no good, just for the scales. Classic Shaving charges about $24.00 for those Dovo scales that aren't worth diddley squat.

I'd take the chance! - but that's how I find great stuff. Yes, I do get burned, but not more than I don't. This could be a great razor! It's probably not, but it's worth taking the chance,..........besides......!

After mouthin' off, I decided to give this one a try. What did I have to lose? $.99 + $8.80(shipping) = $9.79

I got it in the mail, yesterday. Pretty quick shipping. The scales were very generic, and I have seen worst. At first glance, the razor is a 5/8, about a medium heft. A bit on the light side, but not bad. It did have a gold wash on it that said, :Professional Razor". It looked cheap for gold wash. No, I did not Maas it. I put electrical tape on the spine and started on my 1200 DMT continuous to set the bevel.

There were heavy scratches at the bevel area. I worked quit hard to darken the bevel and remove scratches - If you've ever looked at Paki razors under the microscope, the bevel is very shinney and there are large scratches. This was not as bad, but the area from the bottom of the bevel to the edge never did darken as I wanted. It did darken some what, but not great. Because the razor did start getting somewhat sticky (TPT), I did take the razor through my usual set of polishing stones, although the sticky feeling on the thumb pad felt rather rough. I finished with CRO and stropped it 100 times. The HHT test did not go well, a bad sign. Upon observing through the scope, the bevel was dark, but the edge had sparkles of light and the edge was not even or straight. To say the least, it failed the shave test miserably!! Which, of course, is the most important test.

Even though this razor can be had for less than $10.00, it's not worth the money nor your time.

Sorry the reason I mentioned shipping is that they are like 10 miles from David and me. Seemed silly for that distance.

    Steve (and others)-

quote taken from the listing, with my inference added in bold:

"The blades for these razors were made in Germany in the 1980’s by Herder’s Knife Company. This company was sold to Frost Cutlery but Mr. Frost had no interest in remaining in the razor business. The blades were sold as scrap to a company called Szco which shipped them to Pakistan and had handles applied. The result is a razor that would cost $100 if made today."

I read this and nearly fell off my chair!

Is this really how it felt for you? Was it a $100 shave?

My first thought is those herder blades that where being sold by smokey mnt knife works. they were not tempered properly.
