Recently purchased this Fontana razor off the Bay almost by accident.I have taken to doing saved searches for razors that I know to be quality/rare/favorites rather than scanning a list of all razors since there is so much crap to ignore (zeepk etc.)When I did the search,it came up with one Fontana, but the auction was ending soon and I had to go out.I threw up a $25 bid,and when I came home,Ifound I had won it for $12.50.I knew it was fairly rare based on my reading(lurking)here so I bid after only a quick look at the pictures. It arrived today and it's not horrible, but it is a little rough.
It has I think: *A bent pivot pin(the pin ends are canted, causing two small hairlines,Ican move the blade sideways almost 1/8 inch)
*Worn but partly readable tang stamp
*Scales are rough,a couple of worn or melted spots, warpage outward, overall dullness or scratching.Silver Fontana Fountain inlay is very cool ,only a little tarnish.
*Blade face has visible grind lines(this may be typical of these razors?)It seems to be factory and not the sellers attempt to clean up a rusty razor.
*Pronounced hone wear on toe end although it is very sharp
I guess I am soliciting comments on it's quality/rarity(I know BurnBeGone would want it) and also if it could be restored back to factory without breaking the bank.
I am going to try to post the pictures I got from eboy but bear with as I am a noob and this is my first post.I have been tentative to post but as my friend says"Jump right in with both feet, and KICK"
