Thanked: 0Genco Razors???
So I just purchased an old Genco razor from a lady here at work, sight unseen. She says it's in good shape and has always been cared for (as far as she knows). I'm new to "collecting" razors. I only know about the 2 I already have. Can anyone give me the skinny on the company, maybe a date range, wether or not the 15 I gave for it was a good price (assuming it's in good condition)...

They're a good US razor. It was first called Geneva Cutlery Co. Then changed to Genco. They're out of Geneva, NY and I believe they were the largest US cutler at one time. I don't know their dates, but I would imagine they were in their heyday early last century?

Thanked: 4941If the razor is truly in nice shape then you got a great deal. Genco's are some of the best shavers out there and have always been very consistent in honing and maintaining.
Good Luck.

Yes, good razors indeed. I have a beaten up Genco Gold Seal that a friend gave me and love it to bits. It's one of my tip-top shavers. Nimble, light and sharp. It gives me great consistent shaves! Good deal you got, buddy. If it's in good shape, of course...

+1 they are good. The only caveat is that to the average person versus the straight razor shaver "good condition" may be two different things.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 0Sounds like I got myself a good deal. I generally trust Cecelia's opinion when it comes to the condition of things. I've gotten alot of nice antiques thru her over the years. I'm looking forward to honing it up and giving it a try. Thanks everyone for their imput.

Thanked: 84Ive got a Genco Head Barber. It is a very good razor.
I got it from our sole UK vintage razor shop. It's prop' Steve (SRP member blueprinciple) regards Genco blades as amongst the best, and he loves Sheffield metal!
There is a razor club here dedicated to New Yorks finest. Or is it for razors with barber in the name?

IIRC At least one Case brother was involved in forming Genco. Genco had affiliation with Case or was a Case owned company.
