7-Day Sets Better Quality Razors?

Are razors from 7-Day Sets of better quality than individual razors? I am thinking about matching to perfection of finish, bevel, stamping, etching, etc. I have a C. Fried. ERN garantie wald b/solingen 115 3/4 with a "1" atop the spine. This must mean it was in a 7-Day Set. Maybe?... I am continuing to hone and strop to HHT. Since I nicked my ear with the spike, I have left it out of the rotation. This razor just might be the best quality razor I own. Anyone have experience with orphaned 7-Day Set razors?

Not sure if the steel is any better but all the razors that i have that were/are part of 7 day set seem to have been assembled with more care... after all these were made for the "gentlemen" of the day... not the common folks.


as for the c. Fried. Ern razors absolutely great shavers! my current go to is a "Damascus" (name not steel type) 6/8 spike ... as good or better that some of the expensive razors in the box.

source of most noticeable shaving accident 5/8 barber notched "Wednesday" CFE.... the spike bit the same place twice and took off a nice strip of skin.


not sure if it is the special set steel of that the Ern razors are very nice (and underrated) in general.

I don't mean to argue with the theory that razors in sets were more carefully made (that sounds quite logical), but I would point out that every once in a while you'll find a razor that just seems exceptional. I've seen/heard of this happening from well known, highly regarded companies and from lesser known companies as well. My opinion, love the shaves and don't ask too many questions (but maybe look for more similar razors).

Well, these were upscale products, and especially the older ones seem to be made with more care. Not sure if that translates to much better shave.

+1 on Holli, Syslight and Gugi. I would add that the seven day sets offer the same balance and shave experiance (if all honed to the same level) with a different razor each day pf the week. Shaving with a different razor every day for the past several months shows me how each make and style has it's own personality. A seven day set would reduce that variance and extend periods between honing.
