I've scoured eBay and there isn't a single one left :[
Wapienicas are becoming hard to find these days... Steve Dempster (Blueprinciple here) had some in his online shop (Introduction to razors) but they're sold out. Apparently he sold the last one yesterday because I wanted to buy one as a Xmas gift for my brother and they were marked as sold out. Maybe some new stock is due to arrive any time soon. You could contact him... the ones he sells are not exactly cheap but they are top range Wapienicas. I should know... I bought mine from him! :) Anyway... good luck finding one for yourself! :gl:
Thanks. Looks like I came into the whole straight razor scene a few months too late.
I just bought three Wapis from Steve Dempster about a week ago because I'm going to offer traditional barber shaves and I needed autoclavable razors (stainless steel scales).
If you're on a tight budget and don't have any straight razor, I have a very nice Dovo stainless steel razor that was my first razor 28 years ago. If you will treat it well and PIF when you don't need it anymore, PM me with your address and I will send it to you for free.
I just bought a lot of 3 off eBay. Cant wait to see them. Maybe we can work something out.
Try Kenrup. This is his user name on this forum. He has Wapis for sale on his website. He is very reputable
They seem to show up in little bursts on e-bay and on the buy/sell sections here and on Badgerandblade. Seems like there were a few on the boards a week or three ago, can’t distinctly remember. Just be diligent and watch, you got to be looking when the next one/s pops up, you will be able to score eventually.
The news is bad folks ... from what I'm hearing, the supply of NOS Wapienica's is exhausted.
Be of good cheer, Kenrup posted this yesterday. It seems wapis are going back into production, not the stout 1/4 to 1/2 hollow with industrial strength stainless scales we've come to love, but a conventional full hollow roundish point with plastic scales. Kenrup will be selling shave ready wapi IIs for $53 so you will probably be able to get one for 30 bucks or so.
I would have preferred the wapi II to have been a remake of the original, but hey, anybody starting up new straight production should be celebrated!
I wrote to open_razor (who sells Wapis on eBay) asking if he had any and he didn't answer me. Then another member here who sells Wapis told me that he didn't have any more, that he had written to his contact (the same open_razor) and that he didn't respond. Now, we hear that open_razor is marketing a razor under the Wapi name. You can put 2 and 2 together as well as I can.
Well, it may not have tail fins on it and a huge chrome grill but the new razor is made by the same company and they call it a Wapencia. It's a good razor and it is very different from the original.
I am hearing that there are some stray stashes of the original Wapis popping up but not a steady supply.
a few people have given the link for the well honed razor for $45.
I'm just holding my breath as I may have 50+ 'real' wapis coming in soon.................I'll keep you posted. :y
