Cant seem to pull it up!
LISTING UNAVAILABLE sorry
that is exact impression what you have done.i hope i am wrong but from bunch i find only 3-4 blades maybe restored.good luck and if you have enough time work on them will help in learning process.
I count 6 maybe 7 that I would give a try to, so that comes out at about $5.50 each, yeah not bad......
Watch the RRD (Razor Restoration Disorder) it is a bad monkey to have on yer back :gl:
It must be experience but I have no clue how from those pictures you can decide which blades are good to restore. I have a knife that looked awful. By rubbing it with metal cleaner it got so shinny and nice. I was very surprised. I did nothing more to it. I wished I had some power tools to make it look even better. Obviously, my knife, which I used to cut chunks of bait with, is not a razor but....
Al raz.
Well you can never tell 100%. But I look at the hone wear, the edge and for deep rust. Black streaks are bad, especially around the edge. Some kind of steel eating fungus? lol
Since my razors are for shaving and not collecting, I don't care about some pitting, it usually looks ok buffed up.
Now, I will even take some and "bread knife" out the nicks in the blade. I bet over half of these will make great shavers. We will see I guess.
Looks like you've got some good ones there - just need a little elbow grease (and time) and you'll be good to go! Not bad at all for the price IMHO!
Oh, I see. Thanks a lot for the comment Ron. I would sure like to have the smiley razor near the bottom right. I think that one alone would be a great project (I am not saying that others would not be good). For an unknown reason, I love the shape of these razors.
Al raz.
The Pipe razor looks real nice. The frameback would be good for slicing up a grapefruit. :D
but I think you did fine with that.
I would concur with the masses definitely 6-7 good project razors there. Thats the way to grow some nads and jump in with both feet!!!!!!
Oooh, that pic gives the the opportunity to ask a question without having to take a pic myself and post it. It's a question of terminology:
What are opinions on the terminology that should be used to describe the toe of the blade in the upper right of the first photo in the link? It's an extreme example. To ensure you know which one I'm referring to, it's the razor where the toe is significantly tapered in comparison to the heel. The ugliest condition a razor can suffer from IMO. But...what's the generally accepted term for that condition even if it's found to be much more subtle on a razor?

ok well i got bored at work and i decided to have a closer look at your winnings...i even rated them for the hell of it :P Green are what i deem good restore candidates, yellows are possible the rest...i'd just use for my sick twisted experiments and make a frankenrazor :-)
ps...the ones i can make out are the two pipe razors (obvious) and i think the one in the right column at the bottom is a Friodur (anyone confirm?)
pps...i am in no way an expert in the restoration of blades take what i say with a grain of salt...maybe a ton of salt :gl:
I saw that lot on ebay, but decided not to bid. There is nothign really interesting in it.
But there are a couple of blades that could be restored pretty well, so you got a good deal.
Those other ones you can cut the tangs off of to use as a spacer while making your scales :)
That third one down on the left... I could be wrong, but...
... is there a small chip out of that blade? :hmmm:
I won a similar lot last year and found that a lot of the blade that I though were beyond repair actually cleaned up well.
I'm not sure that chip in the third on the left is one of those, but I would give a good few of those a try.
Sidney, some razors have smiles, some have frowns, and this one appears to have a cleft palate.
ChrisL, I agree - the over ground toe is the ugliest thing a razor can suffer from.
Although these razors might not be pretty, they can be honed to shave well, actually. If you want to throw some cheap scales on there, you could give them to newbies who want to get into straights really cheap, if they're desperate.
What is that one in the left column, 7th down?
looks interesting
