Short W&B
OK this is weird. I have a large W&B that I got from ebay but the blade seemed like it was really short. Like maybe someone had cut the toe end aff and reground it. But I ran across this on ebay today:
VINTAGE WADE & BUTCHER THE CELEBRATED STRAIGHT RAZOR - eBay (item 190271424236 end time Dec-10-08 11:48:03 PST)
This looks exactly like the one I have. Exactly the same length. Is this thing just a shorter W&B. Or is this some weird coincidence that this guy has a hacked Chopper coochie razor too.

I don't really know, but it might be that the blade is so wide it makes it look short. 2 3/4 inches isn't really a short blade. I have a 3" wide Norton stone, and none of my blades are more than that. They are usually close to, or about 1/4" shorter.

Those big blades will throw the perspective off when you look at it, it looks normal for a meat chopper. The blade etch looks centered and thats usually the easiest way to tell if the blades been altered.
-
I've got a few of those. It looks normal to me, and a tad large for a coochie razor!
-
OK, got home and looked at mine. It's shorter. I think the end is sawed off. Anyone? blade itself measures 2 5/8 inches from tip to shoulder right under shank.

An interesting razor. It does measure shorter than most, and the blade looks a bit short for the scales. Then again, the etching does look pretty much centered...
So long as the toe looks ok (meaning it appears as stock or the modifications were well done), she should be a good shaver either way.

I personally think she looks badass. A little stubby, If it were mine I would speak of it endearingly as being portly or stout. :rofl2: User preference my friend. Noyhing is perfect, if you don't like it I am absolutely positive that i would pay the shipping for you to send it to me. :hmmm:

It may be stubby...but it's the girth, not the length that matters! If it keeps bothering you, get it some new scales. I thinks it look mighty fine as is, yes I does.
-
Here is mine. Yours may be a bit short. maybe not.

yeah, mine is about a 1/4" shorter. Still dont know if that's how it was made or not.
-
If it's got good temper and hones and shaves well that is the important thing. Looks like it may have been made @ that length. If not someone went to alot of trouble for a quarter inch.
-
Was this one advertised as short. There was one on there last month and I completely forgot to bid on it.
I try to keep an eye out for the short travel style straights which seem to be around 2" of edge proper
maybe at one point someone added standard scales

i have two of thes and the blad is 2 3/4 by 15/16 wide they are the best hollow grounds that i have.the shave is so smooth that i dont mind the short length .:chop:

Hi Ronnie. How 'bout the scales. Are they typical fit or do they seem over- long?
-
Looks good to me - Do you want me to look after it? :D
-
That's about everything I'm looking for. Spike point and shorter so I can shave easily down to my beard line between my sideburns and goatee where a standard length blade is too long. Please polish it up a bit 'cause I don't have any skilz :D
