I have noticed that what was once called 're-grind' is now being called 'new grind'.
Is Mastro Livi using different blanks now?
I have heard nothing but good things about the new grinds and wonder if they are the same, better or worse that the formerly labeled regrinds?
If anybody who has some input (experience with both) into this could let us know, it would be much apprieciated.

What were called "regrinds" were old blanks forged by a cutler named Pinin about a hundred years ago that Livi found, ground and made into razors. They were all carbon steel and there was a limited number of them, 400 sticks in my brain, of which I have two. I don't know what the the "new grinds" are but if they are damascus, Takeda or ATS34 steel they are not the "regrinds". As for how they compare, I can only tell you that my two regrinds are superb and I have heard only good things about the others.
I don't know about the new grinds but I have a regrind and agree its a really great shaver.
I believe that they are the same. To me, regrind is not really a truly representative term for these razors. They are not re-ground from a larger finished razor. They are newly ground from an old forging as Chimensch stated earlier. So, new grind seems like a more positive sounding and more accurate description.
Whatever you call them, they are superb shavers.
