Le Grelot 3/4-1/1 hollow
Being one with serious RAD, of course I had to have one, and just received it in the mail on the afternoon of Christmas eve - this is one of the thinner grind Le Grelot razors and man does it look nice. And considering the timing of its arrival, I thought this bodes well indeed for face and razor both.
Not so fast there, RADMan, there seems to be a problem, actually more than one small problem, and that is chips. In looking at the bevel through my often panned but seemingly always useful Radio Shack cheap hand held microscope, I noticed voids here and there where the edge should be. "Tsk, tsk," said I. Well... those were not the exact words I used, but those you see here somewhat convey the content of my comments to self and the air chewed blue about me.
I'll probably get back to the vendor and see what remediation is available for the problem blade, but in the meanwhile, I think I'll attack the lacking edge with a vengence of hones to see just what I can get away with in an abrasive attempt to fashion an edge where one exists only in places.
Stay tuned, more will follow in the tale of: is it Lazarus or is it Zombi?

I would guess that once you hit that chipped blade to the hone it is yours and all possibilities of vendor remediation will evaporate. Your call. Good luck.

Joed,
You are probably right. When I first got it I touched the blade up a bit until the TPT seemed almost right; then tried shaving with it and was not at all satisified. Tried a bit more up-touching, then a bit more shaving with strange tuggings, and then looked at the bevel whereupon I saw the edge with gaps. I figure if the vendor refuses a replacement, that damage to the trade has already been done by my honing to date. We'll see what the future holds.

I doubt they would notice your honing. If it's crap, send it back.

Ouch! Thats more than a bummer:rant:
Gimme a call and stop over when you have time. I have some stuff to show you...and bring that razor along with you.
