Bad tempered boker.
I got a beutyfull Boker of ebay some weeks ago.Upon recieving it I could see that it had gasoline coloured burn marks along the edge.(Don't have any pictures now) I've managed to put a nice edge on it.But I wonder if it is futile...will it be able to hold the edge? Or is it toast?
Thanks Kristoffer.

If you were able to put an edge on it and it holds it I wouldn't worry. it could be many things. Unless it reached a certain temp it wouldn't lose its temper anyway.

temper
try shave couple times and check the edge you should be able to figure it out.basically if it takes a good edge then blade should be ok

Most every Boker I have has had it especialy the KingCutters and Good as Gold. All right along the edge within a 1/8 inch or so. Just from tempering It apeard to me. Doc should chime in on this one but they must have been temperd after there finish grind. They all are surperb shavers(ones I have) and it will buff off if you dont have any gold wash your worried about. But a Boker collecter might would rather see it on a mint or NOS Boker.

I have had those that I have put on the blade myself but have always been able to rub them out by hand with a little Maas and a rag. I haven't noticed any blade deterioration or change in temper.

I've got this Joe Rodgers with what sounds like the same appearance. It has been fine. I think that somewhere in time lather was left on it after a shave and etched the blade with that color. Maybe the same thing happened with yours. All you can do is see if it holds an edge. Something like that could probably be removed with hand sanding if it is surface only but I wouldn't care to invest the hours and elbow grease required. Here is a pic of the edge before honing.

Dunno, that does look like heat but maybe not. All you can do is wait and see how the edge holds up. :gl:

Thats it! Thats normal for a un-polished Boker if you have a buffer with some green rouge it will come right off. Check the Brother Hood pages you may see it there too. You just got a virgin;) I have a King Cutter I havent touched and its the same as your and my others I will post a pic of it when I get my camera back tonight.
