What are you currently collecting?

After straightshaving and honing for about a year, I have come to realize that I'm not only shaving with straights.I collect them.That goes for hones to, you understand this when you are well beyond what you need.And cannot anylonger argue for that straight shaving is cheaper than cardridge...

I own about 20 razors now, some shave ready, some a total mess, and some in between.
I have 4 hones and 4 more due shortly.

Of my razors( camera busted )ca. half is german, 3 english, 2 spanish, 3 american, one polish.
They are of various brands such as:Boker,Dovo,Henckels,Keen cutter,dubble duck,w & B,filarmonica,wapi, eicker and so on.

In the beginning, I really wanted big blades. But after a while, I came to the conclusion that 5/8-5/6 is the size, that gives me the best shave.I like both sq.tip and round.
I read a post by Glen about american steel, that made me want to try them out.I bought 3, and 2 og them are now among my best shavers.( I didn't get less hungry for american blades by looking at pictures from Glenns collection!)
So I'm really into american vintage blades right now!
I used to be a huge fan of Filarmonica, but after shaving with several different brands, I don't think they are worth the dollars.( I will get one more really expencive one, just to be sure:D)
Of new razors, my Dovo special 5/8 is an amazing shaver! I will focus on Dovos when it comes to new blades.I'm playing with the tought of getting my own 7-day set.With all different new dovos, and the box they sell on Classic shaving.For vintage, I will as mentioned go all american.And of course a few more Bokers, and one of each kind of dubble ducks.Mabe a few more W&B,and som of the other classic english brands....You see where this is going?

So what are you currently collecting? And why? How many have you got? And some pictures please!

I have a serious RAD. Lately I've been after just what you mentioned. I'm always on the look out for a nice Duck. I love Wade and Butcher, and the Boker's. I've only found a couple of Red Injuns, but there mint. I have a Genco, a few Shefields, a bunch of different Germans. I missed a puma on Ebay because I was asleep at the wheel. It won't happen again. I snagged a nice Boker and W&B. I'll try to post pics later on this thread. As far as the Ducks go, I've only found one that's in almost new condition. I haven't even shaved with it yet. I think today is the day. I have a few that I might bust out. I love the Dovo's. I have Red Solingen 5/8 and a Red Bismarck 6/8. I also have a Livi New Grind, NOS. A great shaver..I may start shaving with the new stuff and make a display case for the vintage blades. I have about 30 razors right now, all are shave ready. Even a Rolls Razor set up just for the collecton sake of it. I love them all, Some are better shavers, especially the W&B's IMHO. I have 10 different hones. Nortons, different Coticules, BBW, C12k, Nothing really pricey like vintage Escher's or Nakiyama yet, although I've been in touch with old school. I have too many out right now, about 20. I want to get down to 7 and put the rest up somewhere. I just like looking at them and using them. so, it's not easy to put them away....Enjoy, Rich

Cool, I'm getting a nakyama from OS, in a few months for my 30. birthay.Also, I couldn't resist getting a coticule and a bbw.
Both 6"x2" , I'm getting them in feb.along with a 1200 dmt.

What do you think about the " dovo 7 day set? "

2 Bergischer lowe 5/8
3 dovo genuine ebony (sq.p) 5/8
4 Bismarck 6/8
5 genuine buffalo horn 5/8

Well as of late its been Bokers... King Cutters mostly and few Torreys im always looking for Henckels but cant aford the ones I like:hmmm: And well just about any other that I like.:D

It's taken me about a year to realise that I prefer stiffer grinds and larger blades. I recently got an Otto Deutsch's Hans from Maximilian, and I am utterly in love with its looks. So is the wife, which is good, because it means I have (some) control over my credit card again. I am currenly on the lookout for similar razors, i.e. Art Deco razors like a Pearlking, Fromm Redhead, or a Michels Truedge, in excellent condition.

They have stiff prices on ebay.lovlely razors tough.

Well, I paid USD 100 for the Otto Deutsch. I do not intend to spend much more for any of the others. Truth be told, I do not intend to pay more than USD 100 for any razor, unless it's a new custom (which I do not fancy much). I am particularly appalled by the prices Dubl Ducks fetch. I have shaved with one, it was very nice, but I have two German no name razors that outshaved it (based, mind you, on limited experience) the DD which was professionally honed and in near mint condition.

Not to hijack your thread, but I have come to realise that I want my razors to look the way they were made. I have three razors with wooden scales, and I quite dislike them. Of course, judging the quality of a tool by its aesthetic value is silly, but I honestly do not want to shave with a razor that has handles made out of strange materials, including, but not limited to, wood, CF or - heaven forbid - Polymethyl methacrylate.

That sounds nice for a seven day set, If I do something like that, i can display my vintage razors and use the Dovo's. I especilly like that Bergischer lowe, that's my next purchase after I pay Alex for this really cool W&B with twill scales. Let us know how you like the Nakayama....Rich

These are a few of my favorite things. There's Two Goldedge, Two Dovo's, A Black Diamond, A Griffon, Two Wade and Butcher's and a Livi. I haven't shaved with the Black Diamond yet, once I do, It'll get replaced with one of my Bokers...
