Please tell me if this razor is OK or not (pics inside)

Hey guys,

I have here some pictures from a razor I'm looking into buying (it's very cheap) and I'm wondering if it's money well spent or not. I want to restore this one to make it into a shaver, not to put it behind a window and show off or something, it has to shave my face, that's it :-) I like the scales, and it seems the razor didn't receive to much abuse? Anyhow, I have no clue what brand this HSM is, but by the looks of it, would you consider this a good razor?

My oppinion is that the blade is frown honed!
Don't buy it.

If it is inexpensive, it is the normal razor. It is necessary to sharpen and use.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat!!!

The frown is "slight" and not a problem if you can hone at all. Actually frowns are easier than smiles to hone up, IMO.

It it a Sheffield and a very interesting looking razor. I like different logos, like this one. Another observation: Besides being a Sheffield, every manufacturer that has that design pattern around the tang, is usually always a quality razor.

Don't be afraid of that little smile. :)

Heck, I'd hone it for you for free!

I TOTALY disagree that a frown is easier than a smiling to hone up
It is a time and steel consuming job.
But if you have someone to hone this razor for free and this razor is inexpensive, go for it....

I wish all ebay pics were this big.

How cheap is cheap. If it is less than $30, I would buy it. Old razors are supposed to have quirks.

Well, don't kill me and don't steal my loot but... It's a set, a merkur DE, this straight and two spare razor blades for the DE, for 15 Dollar :shrug::rock:

The frown doesn't look like a major issue to me. All the Kaiser Ellison razors I've had were great blades. I'd seriously consider it.
