Pa. barber code . old style straight razor are fine, as with all barber tools you must follow proper sanitation & sterlization. 1st rule of any professional barber is to protect the health of his client and himself! The sanitizing of the razor has it's own effect on the edge let alone general use. That's why I'm looking for what razors are relative easy to sharpen and hold a good edge? All help is greatly appreciated and will only give me more info on this subject, helping me choose without trial and error! Looking for razors that give a better shave than a shavette

Considered Friodurs? They are stainless, readily available from Jim Crowley. A bit hard to hone sometimes but edge holding is great.

I have autoclaved a variety of razors with stainless steel scales and the edge holds up just fine. In addition to the Wapi, there are stainless steel scaled razors available from Dovo and TI.

I just wanted to add that the cycle time of an autoclave is only 15-20 minutes, so you only need two razors per barber to get started.

I have always been told by the old barber gentlemen that they preferred C-Mon (Peter J. Michaels) and Dubl Duck razors although many had sizable collections. Some have also expressed to me a fondness for US razors like Genco and King. Some liked the old Sheffields as well. Considering this, I would think that a 5/8 razor would be best to accommodate all face sizes and shapes along with a full hollow or extra hollow blade which are usually pretty easy to sharpen and rehone and tend to hold a good edge for a while.

    Good luck,

    Lynn

If you want to autoclave on the cheap, and as long as inspectors understand the concept of their equivalency, a home electric pressure cooker works exactly like an autoclave. Most pressure cookers will go to 15 pounds pressure, which translates to about 121C. That is certainly adequate for sterilization of Wapis.

One suggestion, if you want another brand of razor, just ask around for some old Wapi scales. Lots of people have rescaled their Wapis leaving you ample opportunity to swap them onto some other stainless steel razor.
