I'm trying to date a Vintage JC Henckels Twin Works 407. How do you do it? There are no markings to lead me? I've attached a photo. Just started in collecting....help. Thanks!!:shrug:

Dunno but that is a mighty nice razor you have there. :tu I would bet it is from the '50s or earlier but that is just a guess.
First you take it out for lunch. Wait 4 days then ask it out for dinner. 2nd date rule and all that.
Back to point.
The Henckle website has a dating system revolving around the twins.
Problem is it is a range not a specific date.
In WW2 the Henckle factory was destroyed in a bombing raid so there are very few records out there.
I knew once I wrote "date" what kind of answers I was going to receive!! But it did make me LOL. To what JimmyHAD said, and based on where I found it, mid 1950's sounds likely! It is "new" condition and has never been used. The thng looks like the day it was made....thanks!!
1932 is the earliest date I see for the twin trademark us patent office registration mentioned on the case you pictured

Did you snag that beaut off of ebay? I had my eye on it...good snag. Is that the one with the original scales? I could be way off base here too lol.

No, I have it on sale at EBAY. Yes, it is all orginal, never used, pefect shape. But with all the great feedback, I might pull it down. I didn't really know what I had and it sounds like I have something special. I've truely learned a lot....specials thanks to Hoglahoo!! Thanks for the info.
I go by the scale material, where its from and style of wedge. Then I take a breath and guess! : P

Seriously, its kind of hard when all you have is a manufacturer's stamp. On this G. Washingtons razor I'm working on though, I know exactly when it was made. Some nice fellows did the research for me and its from 1832. ; ) But thats only because it has George Washington etched on the razor. If it wasn't for that, I'd have guessed 1800's from the condition the scales are in.
Uhm, I believe it is against ebay's rules to pull an item once there are bids on it. That's why we do not allow items to be listed in the Classifieds if they are also listed on ebay - basically you are putting yourself in the position to not being able to honor your obligation.Quote:

I have the same exact razor. My guess is that it was made in the 1950's. Scales are faux ivory celluloid. I think the furniture is silver. Yours looks to be new-old stock, VERY nice. Mine is in great condition and shaves wonderfully. If you decide to hone and use it, I think you will delighted.

I might be able to shed a little more light on that razors date. my recently deceased aunt went to barber college in 59 I think it was, I would have to ask one of my uncles the exact date, and we found some that she had bought in barber college exactly like that one. we actually found about a dozen of them so either she dropped a lot of razors or the barber shool had a really really good razor salesman.
after a short consultation with my uncles I found out that I was a year off. my aunt actually graduated barber college in 1958, but that does confirm that those razors were available either through the barber school or from barber supply shops in the late 50's or maybe the early 60's since she wouldnt have bought them before '58
