The Puma/Duck - can't win for losin'

I have managed to acquire 3 Puma dubl ducks. The black scaled piece at the bottom was the first. The blade was painfully close to the wedge and from what I heard all the Puma/ducks known in Puma scales were the same way. :shrug: I don't for a moment doubt the word of the person who told me that but it doesn't make sense to me that Bresnick would have put the razor out like that.

The next one was the one with the yellow scales marked Solingen. Probably a rescale. It is marked #350 on the tang. I wonder if the scales might possibly be original ? Anyone with a Puma/Duck have one with the same type of inlay on the scale ?

I just got the one in the center. It is marked 400 on the tang and I was really interested to see how close the point would be to the wedge and when I opened the package much to my surprise I found a third pin spacer at the end rather then a wedge. :gaah:

I've messed with straight razors for a lot of years and I have never seen any with this treatment before. Still, the pins look original and even though I sort of know it isn't factory .... has anyone seen a razor come out of the factory like this Puma or otherwise ?

I've got a 'Twin Duck' with a '3rd pin' spacer in place of a wedge. This is the only shot I have of it but you can see the 'Bresnick/Dubl Duck' logo matches the 'known' ducks. Go figure.

Thanks Joed. Now I'm really wondering. Is it possible that Puma made the blades and furnished the inlay for the scales. Bresnick jobbed the scales out and they used a wedge on some and found that there was a clearance problem so they started using a 3rd pin spacer in the place of a wedge. :hmmm: It doesn't sound likely but who knows ?

Bresnick was strictly a barber supply outfit. I would imagine they contracted with Puma to do some of their razors. I don't think they would have bought separate razors and scales. Who would have assembled them? Not Bresnick. I used to think these were factory gaffs with the puma scales but since so many have come up I think now that that is the way they were supposed to be. Remember the Bresnick razors were in the early days of the company. As far as the wedge in the end goes that is unusual. I wonder if those were redone.
