Did I read right? you only hone up to 2000 grit before going to a pasted strop? Seems a little coarse to me. It seems to me you should go to 6k at minimum and 8 to 10k being closer to ideal before you go to a pasted strop.

what i mean by saying early message.
i mean to see edge 2000x or 5k will not teach you anything . As by such a huge magnification you will not see the edge. You will be able to see just small point of it. doesn't matter you check whole edge or what else you do. it is such huge magnification will mislead you.
Now if you are trying to hone blade you should go at least 8k level. even then by using 200ox you will see every small line in there

Think this way. if you check hair on 2000x magnification you will see instead of hair a big HUGE TREE.
I HOPE this clears my thoughts.
But if you use 100x and check the edge then your will get a lot more benefit from it.
again this is just my thoughts.

Ok Please if this is you are trying to do you are doing wrong. if scratches made 3-4 micron size going back to 4-5 you will make a new scratches by sizes of 4-5. that means you doing worse ? Am i right or you just misstyped ? could be.

It's just improper english. Ya'll in the UK speak much better than us Americans.

This is awesome. I can only dream of having access to a SEM, but I could come up with a lot of experiments to perform.

One big advantage of a SEM is that you can actually see and do measurements on the width and the shape of the bevel tip, a.k.a. the very edge.

This could finally clear up some questions about stropping and how various stropping surfaces affect that bevel tip.
And a whole bunch of other questions, concerning hones and their abilities too.

If we would start a separate thread here on SRP to device a few systematic tests, (such as, for instance, shooting pictures fresh off the hone, after the first stropping session on leather, right after the first shave, and after allowing the edge a day of rest), would you be prepared to run them, for the benefit of the whole SRP community?

It would be interesting to see the difference in a razor that you first purchased new. Then send it to Lynn for sharpening then take a photo of it. I bet that thing would look as smooth as butter.
