A story of abuse and neglect made right

Well yesterday (Wed.) morning was truly a great shave. not just the shave being great, but the occasion. it was my first shave with my newly reconditioned first razor.

This razor sat in my dad's toolbox top tray for years, I remember seeing it there when I was a kid. why there? no idea. I inherited the toolbox, and the razor, and it languished still within that tray of tools. Any time I saw it I thought I'd try it some day. Finally I pulled it out, it was too dull, I found this place and set it aside.

The story behind this razor, and another one that I have, was that they belonged to my great-great uncles Salvatori "Sam" and Luigi "louie". my great grandfather's brothers who lived as bachelors to their dying day, and always shaved with a straight. I don't know who's razor this is, but it was bad off. the two blade pics are after I sanded it with some 1500 grit. I actually loved the way the patina looked. but it didn't fit the plan I had.

I finally sent it off to Max and asked him to use the black and tan G10, (which ends up looking black and grey, just what I wanted). I couldn't be happier with the result, and was very happy with the shave. I hope my pics are good, Max hopefully took better before mailing it. there is still some pitting on the blade which I'm glad about, I don't want it to look completely new.

That's awesome brother, Max is a wizard... I'm convinced that he doesn't actually touch the razors he restores, he just transforms them by willpower and concentration... A wizard I tell you

Looks great! I agree that it's awesome you have a story to go with the razor, even better since it ties into your family.

Not sure if my family has any hanging around. I've seen my relatives on how they act about other family memebers' property and it's bad since they aren't even gone yet. Still, it gives me the idea to check with the family "historians" next family reunion and see if they saved any and are willing to entrust them to me.

Hell if they saved a head of red hair from the founding mother of my huge clan, they ought to have snagged a razor right? :rofl2:

Ben that's one of my shop towels. they have a hard life but are loved. I gave away my wood top workbench a few months back when space got too tight, this one is steel and I put the towels down sometimes depending on what I'm laying out. I think I have shop towel addiction too, I must have 3 boxes (milk crate size) of towels.

The cool thing about removing an old patina, is that you get to watch your own new one develop over the years. I've got a Genco razor that I'm looking forward to doing just that.

The striped G10 looks nice, and the matching wedge is almost hypnotic. :tu

I have sent my razor to Max for restoration for the first time and am wating for it to come back...(I have total of 10 razors I want to send him eventualy, dont ask...)

These magnificent pictures and great story are yet another proof I did the right choice sending it to Max.

You are sooooooooo lucky to have a razor with family history...My Grandfather shaved with a straight until the day he died and I remember it well. He passed away when I was 14 and remember the razor in a box of "junk" nobody wanted......makes me quite sad now when I think about it:(
