How do you store your rotation razors?

How do you store your rotation razors?

How do you guys store your rotation razors? Do you store them in their box (if you have it) in a drawer? Do you try not to use the box to keep the box looking good? Do you purchase one of the Dovo plastic boxes to store them and set your vintage boxes aside? Ideally I would like to have a shelf like Lynn sells and have the ones I use displayed, and I'm working on that; however, in the mean time, I would like to see what most people without this option do.

Also if you do display the razors that you use, how do you do it? Pics would be nice here too! :tu

I keep some in drawers, some on a countertop in a half bathroom adjacent to the regular bathroom where I shave. Every now and then I give them a wipe down with a rust preventative impregnated gun cloth whether they need it or not. I do have a few that are not in use stored in the box but as a rule I just lay them in a drawer without the box. Here are a few of the rotation.

My razors live in mugs, and I store the boxes separately. One of the mugs contains my current rotation. The rest are RAD.

On the left - rotation, on the right - waiting for restoration. Others are restored now. Bird were injected there by my son, it's rare species razor bird :D

I have a small 3 drawer cabinet that I lay them on top of. When I get the cash they will have there own case with lid.

I use one dry and strop it, then move it to the back of the line.

No Tod there is not. I either take one that I'm honing or if not I look at the assortment and one of them calls to me. ;)

I am married, and my wife has always accused me of winning her love with magic, from the time we met! Your comment made me laugh. She, however, is well taken care of. Her comment this morning, though, was "If I got something every time you bought another razor, I would be a very rich woman now!". My reply to that argument is that razors usually don't cost what a high end purse or pair of shoes does. There are exceptions, though.....RAD is a serious disease, but unlike others it is fun!:)

I do the same as Croaker (nice collections) and rotate from 1 mug to an empty mug until I am through them all, except for a very select few that are in special cases as most of the cased razors are custom, but they see use as often as the rest

You guys have some nice collections and idea's for storing.

I keep mine in 7 day razor rolls CarrieM made for me and is in the process of making more. She just can't keep up. The rest are in tooth brush stands or a test tube stand (holds ~ 50). All are kept in a large safe w/ several large silicone pouches to keep the moisture down. Most also have a rub down with rust a preventative. All are shave ready and each week I pul lout a different razor roll and work through it if I don't have any new honed straights getting in the way.

If I still had small children I would keep my razors in a safe, too! I like the lab tube holder idea, but yours must have larger openings than the standard medical lab draw wire basket type tube stands that I am familiar with. What volume/diameter tubes were they designed for?

I'm not sure. The test tube stand was given to me. It's a red plastic. I'll post a pic as soon as I can but I don't think it will be before the weekend. Lot's to do and no time to do it, but it needs to be done before Saturday noon.

Can't take credit for the cabinet work.It's a pre-made pin display case from a hobby store.I did have to take the back off,and install some plywood to screw the hooks into.The case came with a pressed cardboard backing and I didn't trust it to hold.

I keep them in plastic pencil boxes (each holds 16 to 20 razors); in their own cases if they have one. The current 3 or 4 favorites are on a shelf ready-to-grab. All are lightly oiled at all times.

The barber's boxes Tony used to sell. Here is his description. They are very nice and well made, and will hold all but the largest barber's use blades. My wife made me a nice 7 razor roll for those.

The 7-razor boxes were also a gift from her. I started a thread about them a few months ago here.

I have a vintage smoking pipe rack the straights fit into nicely. Got it on ebay for $10, and it has 12 places. My Herbert Wacker and TI are too hefty for the holes and I'll have to widen the holes a bit for them when I get around to it, but that will be easy. A little Renaissance wax makes the whole thing like it was made for nice razors.

Now that I'm acquiring razors at a breakneck pace, I need a storage solution. I love Ray's options but since they are custom made I think I'm out of luck. It doesn't look like TM is making his boxes anymore either.

So, does anybody know of any places to pick up a nice box for storage? I'm not interested in displaying razors, just having a nice spot to keep them.

I think the above Barber's box is a great solution, if you have the room and funds. Another great option that I'm considering is vgod's razor roll. It's not a box, per say, but at $45 for 16 razors, it's also a great option:

When I was starting out, I went to a bunch of cigar stores and walked away with a handful of empty cedar boxes, most of which were lined for 10 cigars. I paid $5 -$10 for some, but most were free.

Good idea, Ray. There are a few nice cigar shops near me. I'll see what they're willing to part with.

Really, really nice razor collections. I'm impressed. I just keep mine in canvas chisel rolls. :o

For someone who appreciates razors, and is used to perusing pages of junk on eBay, it's so nice to look a collections of impeccably kept razors, well displayed. Can't get enough, thanks. I'd love to try some of these ideas.
