Were the potatoes submerged in water or did you just have the razor in amongst the bits of potato?
Thank you for undertaking this experiment, Sham. I think we were all hoping that the potato trick would not only easily remove orange rust, but would also wipe away the black staining/patina. It doesn't surprise me that the potato didn't remove the staining. On carbon steel razors, that stuff very simply seems to be bullet proof and invincible save for physically removing it.

But now you gotta give the spud its fair day. You need to compare idaho's, reds, whites, purple's, yukon golds, yams, sweet potatoes,...
