Does anyone know the difference between theses two models? Both are 6/8 half hollow razors. Is one a "Classic" and one a "Best" or other model? Any quality difference?

The difference is what it says on the blade or the handles it has unless one is stainless and the other isn't. They only use one type of tool steel for all of them.Quote:

My info comes from the Dovo catalogue (a .pdf downloaded from www.dovo.com) where the 38-680 and 101-681 are listed. The last digit changes for different colored scales. The pictures show plain (38-680) and etched blades (101 series). The terms "Classic" and "Best" aren't used in the catalogue. (I'm not sure the pictures are accurate becasue they show 3 pins. ) I also got info from toolshop.de (a German site), vintageblades and Dovo UK. The confusion comes from the inconsistent use of the words "Classic", "Best", and "Special". I have seen "classic" used as a model ("Dovo Classic") and as an adjective (classic Dovo Best, and even the "Dovo Best Classic Razor".). I am not sure the vendors are consistent in their terminology. Model numbers are another headache for newbies since they don't always use the Dovo catalogue numbers, but their own in-house numbers. Jim at vintageblades said the 38-680 was being discontinued, hence the sale price ($15.00 off) and my order :), and was being replaced by the 101-681 which he does not carry. He didn't say what the differences were. The guys at Dovo UK and toolshop.de said there were other similar models, with similar numbers (110-, 112-) which were discontinued as well. So, I still don't really know the difference, except I think I am getting a plain un-etched blade (6/8, half hollow) with two pins in the scales. Dovo has a good rep, so I don't think I'm getting a loser. Looking forward to my new straight.Quote:
