I have 2 different razors, a wosty wedge, and a full hollow C-mon caddy. I had them sharpened at the same time about a 5 or 6 months ago. I've used them relatively equally. But the wosty is almost ready for another honing, and the full hollow is still flying through my beard.
So I was wondering, do the grinds of different razor effect the duration of the sharpness? Or do I need to investigate further into my care and technique to see why my wosty got dull quicker than my Cmon.
Interesting... Maybe! I don't have enough blades to make a comparison.
However, the difference might be from the different steels or manufacturing processes used to create the blades.
I would think it has to do with the hardening and tempering process even more than the metal quality. I don't think it has much to do with the grind of the razor at all. One is probably softer than the other one.
If I'm not mistaken, Sheffield steel is rather soft compared to German and American steels. I would think that would play a role.
The guy who honed your razors probably didn't know what he was doing.....
That said:fim:, I usually find that my wedgey razors hold the edge longer than my full hollows. That Wosty looked like it had a fair bit of work done to it during restoration, so perhaps the temper may have been slightly comprimised???
Are you simply leather stropping them?
Over 5 or 6 months it could be any number of things that has caused a distinct difference in sharpness.
It has to do with the steel more than the grind, Case in point, Zeepk razors, they're horrible at holding an edge. it's cheap steel. Same goes for knives, swords, etc...
Good quality steel will take and hold an edge better than lesser quality steels.
It also has to do with the process in which the steel is tempered, etc...

No, I do 50 laps on canvas, then 50 on leather.
The wosty does seem very soft. It seems to get a little dinged up just from shaving.
