Slight chips at the tip bit not bad enough to worry about. I was really after the scales anyway :D I can now cross a pipe razor off my list of blades to try :)
Nice! I thought about bidding on that one too, but decided not too, probably because of shipping costs to Canada. She looks good, and those chips aren't that big at all and shouldn't pose a threat after a good honing. :tu

Whoot got it in today. I knew the scales whould be interesting, but I think they are plastic or celliliod (sp) they are kind of warped a bit. Not like horn warping, even though it seems to have some internal splitting like horn.
The chips where not that bad and the razor shows signs of attempted cleaning. I say attempted because it was not a very good job :p But not alot of damage and easy to fix.
I started off by tapeing the spine so I could grind out the chips. This is a quarter hollow blade I think and I didn't want to do any undo wear. On the first 10 circles I noticed that the bevels on this blade showed evedence of hard pressure being used previously, bevels and scratch marks above the new bevel with next to no pressure. So that was interesting in it's self, as well as how fast those chips ground away. Maybe only 50 circles total and the chips where just at the vanishing point. (by the way, using a Shapton GS 1k here :p )
I took off the tape and did 10 passes to even the spine and bevel, getting it ready for the 3k S GS. I did about 10 passes here till the bevels where clean and even onder 30x loop. I than moved to the Norton 8k to polish the bevel I just made. I skip the Norton 4k side as I'm just not happy with how the 4k crumbles away so easy, yuck. I like the Shapton 3k much better and I seem to get a better edge off it.
All in all I'm happy with the blade, the scales may get changed out and saved to work on later. Don't know if these scales can be fixed or saved. I'll look into that later.
