I bought recently a new Wacker "Dorko" (nr 1051 of his catalogue) and it needs a little sharpening.
As it it hollowed so nicely I can't see if it is a double edge and thus the need of electric tape.
Can someone help me?
Thanks.

Have you shaved with it? How did you determine whether it is sharp? You can usually see a double bevel under a microscope if you have one. If you bought it new, I am not aware of John taping the spine when he hones his razors.

You might want to PM John, I was under the impression that he does use tape.... :)
But as Lynn said already, are you sure it needs honing???
The other point for anyone else reading this, if a razor has been honed with a taped edge (1 layer) it really only takes about 20 laps on a Norton 4k (for comparison) to wipe that off the edge....
John does NOT use tape (I think NEVER was the precise phrase he used). He's squarely in the "changes the geometry and that's bad" camp.
Whatever he does, he did a nice job honing the stainless weltmeister I bought from him. Good guy to shop from.
ok i just realized you were kidding Glen. :)
I would assume that he bought it directly from Wacker, as he's in Europe...or I think that's what "Northwest of Coticule" would mean...
Thanks a lot guys.
Yes I'm in Europe and bought this gem in the "Koordenwinkel", link:De Koordenwinkel / shaving-and-razor-shop.com :: Klassieke open scheermessen
I lapped it on the strop and went on shaving, but it wasn't as smooth as I wanted. I took out my loupe 30X but couldn't see for sure if it had a double bevel. Sometimes with a certain light angle, it looked like a 'Feather' blade (= double bevel), then when I changed the light angle it looked like a single bevel.
So when I'm going to hone this blade I want to respect the work of Herr Wacker.
It's a fine idea, which allows an edge to hold a good corner for a long time.
Why you are worry about double bevel or single? when you shave try to find right angle it may help. First time straight user will have some problems read more about using straight please. It is not just sharpness of the blade +preparation for shaving is important including soap, hot water , right way stropping etc. gl
