Taylor's Eye Witness "The 1000"
Hi Everyone,
A little gift from my father arrived today – a Taylor’s Eye Witness “The 1000” in a tin box. It has very little wear and since the blade was oiled before storage it shows just a small bit of oxidation. I can’t wait to get it home so I can clean it and see what’s really under the oil. I’ll post pics when I can get to my camera.
Dad saw the posts about the Wonderedge that Glen brought back to life for me and remembered that he purchased this razor while our family was stationed in England in the 70’s. From the look of the blade it hasn’t been used much, but I doubt it was brand new when purchased. The tin that accompanied the razor has lost much of the original gold overlay, but the lettering is still easily readable. There’s a line of text around the rim that reads, “Carefully strop after use, pressing lightly, and use our special “1000” strop.
The engraving on the blade and tang are in great shape. I’m impressed at the condition of the razor considering it’s been in storage for 30+ years. Now I just need to send it out to be honed so it can be in my rotation.
Though I performed a search on the forum I can’t seem to find much information on these. It’s vintage, so I’m sure it will shave well, but I’m hoping to get some information form others who own these razors. Are they above or below average? Easy or hard to hone? The standard questions we all have about brands we’re not familiar with.
Thanks,
- Mark (S-4-C)
