Renaissance Means Renewal
Gentlemen,
It has been a month since the straight razor and I have enjoyed a renewal of sorts. I have already written about some physical problems I've had with my left hand. Since I shave left/right, having learned my technique from Lynn, I was reduced to shaving with the straight on weekends and only one pass. The rest of the week my lovely Edwin Jagger double edge razors gave me good shaves.
Thinking that my straight razor shaving days were over, since I failed to adjust to right hand only shaving, I sold all of my razors save for my Feather AC. Might as well have others enjoy my lovely straights, I concluded.
With my left hand beginning to heal about a month ago, I thought I was due for a renewal, and what better way to face the new beginning, I surmised, but to celebrate it with the Dovo "Renaissance" straight razor? I asked Lynn's opinion on the "Renaissance" and he was complimentary. That was good enough for me. We chose the "Renaissance" razor and strop set — since I had sold my strop as well.
The Dovo "Renaissance" is my first 6/8". I prefer 5/8" razors; however, with the "Renaissance" razor's tapered heel, I find the blade size acceptable.
This is a lovely razor. The metal grill work on the scales adds to the classic styling. To quote in part Straight Razor Design's description of the razor: "The classic look of the Dovo's "Renaissance" straight razor brings back memories of the vintage style straight razors. This Stainless Steel 6/8" blade Round point with beautiful etching is also a great shaver."
And it is.
It fits comfortably in my hands. I like the weight and the balance. It holds the edge. Most of all, the razor symbolizes my Renaissance as a straight razor shaving gentleman. And that makes me happy.
Regards,
Obie
