Thread: Bought a Geo. Wostenholm & Son razor on Tuesday

Hello Gents,

I was in Virginia this past week and hit a few antique stores. I picked up a Geo. Wostenholm & Son I.XL

Can anyone tell me how old this razor might be? I think it might be NOS as it seems to have never been honed. Your thoughts?

I have that very razor, but mine is a POS... etching sanded off, crappy finish, faded scales....

But it is a fine shaver. My guess on the age, based on the trademark, is 1890's or so....


My envy is tremendous. Where did you find that gem????

Now that is one sweet Wosty. She's marked England, so I believe she has to be later than 1890 (unless I have my dates mixed up).

Excellent antique shop find!! I love hearing these stories. One of my first razors is a Wosty pipe superb and a great shaver. You will enjoy your shaves with it. I'm with Holli on the date but I don't recall the exact detains. I know there is some info here on SRP about dating straights. here's a thread to start with and I know there are more if you do a search:

Very nice razor. I think, this razor was made after 1910. I do this conclusion, looking at the handle.

Since it says Sheffield, England rather than Sheffield only it is post 1891. In 1891 the Madrid trade accords were signed which allowed international protection of trade marks but in order to qualify it had to be registered to the country of origin which had to be on the object.

That is a great looking razor and VERY collectable.

Thanks for everybody's feed back. Now i wonder if i just just keep it as a collectible or actually use it. Anybody have an idea of what it might be worth?
