yes it is a good shaver. sharpen it properly it will shave great. GL
Those are stellar shavers. We have some company info in our Straight Razor Database: Ern, Carl Friedrich - Straight Razor Place Wiki - and some razors, too: Category:Ern, Carl Friedrich - Straight Razor Place Wiki.
Ok I wasnt sure if that was the same company. I couldnt find anything on 1601 though. I wonder when it was manufactured.
C. FRIEDR. ERN & CO.
Solingen, Germany
ca. 1873-present
1601 is the razor model number. Wald was obsorbed into Solingen in 1929.
For awhile they also made razors for Sears & Roebuck under the Sta-Sharp logo. Still with the Ern marque too though. I have one and it is a stellar shaver. BTW, you have to be an old guy to remember when Sears was '& Roebuck'. :)
The Sta-Sharps I've seen were made by Koeller, I didn't know Ern made some also.
Ern did have at least one model that was also relabled "Craftsman" for Sears, I had a Ern Crown & Sword branded razor that was exactly the same as one of the Ern Sears razors.
Thanks for the info. I bought it today. it is a small blade, I'll take pics when I get the chance. the scales have some discoloration as well as the blade has the red paint that machinists use.
So the company is still around? I guess just not making straight razors.
