I've been searching for an answer to this and haven't been able to find one. What is a barbers notch for? Does it even serve any prupose, or is it just decoration?

It is to open the razor easier.
I read it somewhere on here but can't remember where.

In the WIKI, you can find answers.
Using function "Search", you can find a lot interesting info on the forum.
looked in Wiki and just found pics of it when refering to different point types.
The best explanation I've read is that the notch on the end of the blade was perfectly placed for the barber who was holding the razor in one hand, the other being busy doing other barber type stuff, now could open it by catching the notch on the breast pocket of his smock. Now open, the razor could be stropped and the shave could begin.
Or it could be there just for something different to look at.
Well there's 1 viable answer, and one that's .............creative.
I added Bruce's comment to the wiki. Hope that's OK. I guess if it wasn't, I wouldn't have rights to edit. :)
