Wade & Butcher is a pretty good choice. Good steel, great quality.
Other excellent choices are Boker, Geneva Cutlery, Joseph Rodgers...
Puma and Dubl Duck to name but two
But there are more and quite a few
You seek them here
You seek them there
Indeed you seek them everywhere
I do not like green eggs and ham
I will not eat them Sam I am :D
(yes, I do have too much time on my hands)
Have you checked out the SRP Wiki beginner's guide here ? There is a list of 'good' razors and razors to avoid.
For the longest time it was the Ducks, Sheffield's (Wade and Butcher) Puma's, Fritz Bracht (Dovo) And now, I guess Fily's to some extent...
Don't forget about filharmonica
Easier to name the bads ones because there are so many good ones. Check the Wiki.
I for one love my Red Point though it doesn't seem to get much press around here.
I'd throw in Henckels/Friodur for good measure too....
Thank you! Great info. Im glad to see probably all vintage razors are good.
Bengalls are some very nice shavers and very under rated as are Wosty Pipes. Some other nice ones are Frederick Reynolds, Joseph Allen & Sons NON-XLL, Imperial, Genco Gold Seal, John Williams Damascus (real sweet shavers if you can find one, I have three)
There are a lot of good vintage blades out there, a lot of guys prefer them to new ones......................
Normally, they're vintage for a good reason (not universally applicable but a good rule of thumb). Judge condition rather than name. This is a link to the wiki's good razor brand. The sentence, 'Most vintage razors that were forged in Germany, England, France, Sweden, Italy and the USA, are considered good blades', is true in my experience (never come across Italian or American yet, I live in hope). Perhaps Spanish should be added? No experience there either.
