Here's a look at some old razor ads from Chicago and Fort Wayne newspapers between 1905-1917. Those 50 cent Wade and Butcher's sound pretty good to me...

Maybe a moderator can move this one into the older one.
It's interesting to note that all of the razors for sale in the first ad are safety razors except for the Shumate which is passed off as an "old style Straight Razor". I guess we are just not as "hip" as those pre-World War I mid-westerners. :)
