Anyone have the Goin's book??

i need help dating a C.F. Shafer straight razor that i picked up on the bay.
i roamed the web and cant find anything at all. even on like yahoo germany :P

First of all - It would be helpful if those seeking information would attempt to provide all of the pertinent data stamped on their razor and provide the correct spelling of the information they are looking for.

The C.F. Schafer Co., was a business that specialized in hardware and tinware as early as the 1870s in Mt. Pulaski, IL. Like hundreds of other hardware, cutlery, barber supply stores, etc, they did not manufacture razors. They had a manufacturer produce razors for them with the name of their company stamped on the tang. Unless you have access to Schafer's purchasing records there is no way of knowing what company provided the razors they sold. There were many companies in the U.S. and abroad who "jobbed" razors for these small time businesses and "personalized" the products they sold.

thanx a bunch for the info. i dont have the full pictures because the pic i submitted was from my iphone. but you are right it seems to be Schafer and not Shafer.

it simply says C.F. Schafer on the tang and on in the other side it says Made in Germany.

Park Roller Mills
C. F. Schaefer Company
Located 903 3th Street & California St. Corner (East)
Columbus, Indiana

The mills was located close to the present Cummins Engine Company. The mill is long gone. There was a conflict of the address of this mill. The 1903-1904 Bartholomew County Directory said 4th Street, but I believe it was 3rd & California Streets. The mill operated until around 1968.

Owners/Management (years 1890s):

-Charles F. Schaefer
-John H. Schaefer
-George G. Schwartzkoph

Note: Charles during some period of time sold his interest to son John H. Schaefer and son-in-law George G. Schwartzkoph.

Employees Late 1890s and Early 1900s:

-Edward M. Miller
-Charles Stucker, Lab
-Geroge W. Stucker, Lab
