I took someone's advice here and picked up a toothbrush holder at Target for a razor stand. They've got zillions of em all different styles. Very cool.
Anyway, my question is when storing a razor in a stand should the tang be up or down? After shaving I always wipe an dry my razors off, so nothing should be dripping off them, but you never know.

I would go tang down. I imagine that the blade is less likely to come open that way, and if it does there is nothing for the cutting edge to bang up against. Also, Spike and French points could be kind of fragile so there is risk of them breaking should the blade come open.
Not a scientific study, just my thoughts on the matter.

I keep mine flat on miniature velvet cushions.
My manservant Gustave holds them flat in satin gloved hands, except when he is insolent and puts on the cotton.
For which he is, of course, soundly thrashed.
I keep mine flat too, though eventually I'm going to find a nice pipe rack or something to tidy up my dresser. SWMBO doesn't like razor sharp razors just kind of floating around...Quote:

I store mine tang down.
Recently an acquaintance built two 12-slot razor racks for me (they resemble pipe racks with holes on top). My specification included storage with the tang down. Soon I will stain the racks.
By the way, after the first of the year, when my Christmas gift camera arrives, I will post some photos of the racks.

I always store mine flat. Here are some of them in a machinist's tool box. It seems to me if I was going to store them vertically It would be tang up. Less chance of the razor opening unintentionally if I was careless picking it up. :shrug: Twenty years of doing structural steel erection in my younger days taught me to anticipate unsafe conditions.
Edit; I wrote tang down and I meant tang up. Corrected the typo. :gaah:
I go tang up because it's the safest end to grab. Those of us who have Lynn's video know that he also goes tang up.

I keep mine flat also in a variety of wood boxes.
Actually, I think I'd like to make a rack for them inside a nice humidor (minus the humid). Need more razors though :D

As long as the razors are dry, and one does NOT put away a wet razor, it does not matter if the tang is up or down. I store my razors lying down.
Well since we're doing pictures now, my favourite razor gets its own bed. I like to call him Gerald.
My meager accummulation of five SR sleep in a drawer in the bathroom cabinet...since my shave den is the hallway bathroom which is also used when I have friends and family visiting, I do not store the SR at plain sight to avoid kits getting their little fingers in them. Anyway, the important thing is to dry those blades before storage.
I keep them tang up in mugs, for safety. Blades do open sometimes and I don't want to grab an edge by accident.
It seems that from the data submitted thus far, "tang-up" is somewhat more preferred for safety reasons. This has been my opinion from the outset. If anyone else would like to contribute their tang-up or tang- down photos, please don't hesitate. Everybody likes to view photos on these threads.
Hey, don't be shy...........Here's a razor I would display with the tang in any configuration. The best shaver I have....
I particularly enjoyed Jimmy's photo of his razors in what appears to be an oak machinist's tool box. I have my dad's oak machinist's tool box where I keep my calligraphic equipment. Very nostalgic.
