WOWSER!That's pricey.BUT,they are dream shavers. You never know,it might be worth it to someone.
Yeah I saw that, as a friend of mine would say, the guy is proud of his razors. :)
That's ridiculously overpriced. Those razors go for 200 bucks each on average, or less.
Right, but they're priced that way because that's what people will pay. Nobody's going to spend $350 apiece for a wonderedge and a goldedge (at least I don't think they would but what do I know).
I got mine for 14 bucks at an antique store. I also saw a lot of 5 plus a No1 special for sale on craigslist for best offer. The guy didn't respond to my emails or they would've been mine.
There are cheaper Dubl Ducks by themselves and in lots on ebay. That guy is crazy.
The guy selling the Wade and Butcher for 500 bucks is crazy too. Guy was on Badger and Blade claiming a restorer sold it to him for that much and he's just trying to get his money back. I feel bad for the guy but I only paid 5 bucks for my WB meat chopper and aint nobody paying 500 for one.
Dubl's that can be restored to that kind of condition go under $75 all the time. Dubl's IN that condition rarely break $150.
He's crazy.
What pi**es me off the most is the chutzpah those sellers have to charge for shipping on top of an absurd high asking price.
Look at this guy:
he's got the RAD for Fil's
2 Barbas and Doble Temple at 300+ a pop. To each his own. Personally I wouldn't spend that much-on a custom absolutely I wouldn't think twice.
What's worst is these seller's charging shit load to ship. There's one seller I know who ships free but that could take as long as two weeks IIRC. But they've 100% feedback nonetheless.
Damn collectors!
No one gets bad feedback on eBay anymore. It's unheard of.
I still have two bad feedbacks on my account from people I'd never heard of who later got banned for leaving false feedback (this was back when you could leave feedback for anyone at any time, even if you'd never bought or sold anything on eBay). eBays policy was to NEVER remove ANY feedback under ANY circumstances at the time. Now feedback basically serves to tell you how many items a seller has sold on ebay. The guy selling that $1000 item who has 200,000 feedbacks is generally considered the safer bet than the guy with no feedback.
I actually kind of miss when eBay was literally nothing more than a BBS that tracked bids and took 1% of whatever your item sold for.
A few years ago Filarmonicas weren' real popularand were considered very average shavers. A few sentences on the forum a few years later and all of a sudden they are as good as a Wonderedge. I have some generally average stuff in my collection I am holding on to so I can make some big bucks in the future when those particular fads hit town.
The above quotes might be relevant to the "lesser" Ducks - Goldedge, Satinedge,#1 - but mint Wonderedges have been in the upper stratosphere price range for a long while now. But I still agree that the asking price for both is ridiculous.
Is all this really surprising though? What about some guys running around paying those prices for Fillies? I can't see the difference.
Wasn't there another (single) DD recently that had the same start price or am I thinking about something else?
It wasn't that long ago that Goldedge's were going for $400 in excellent condition.
I know I always beat this dead Filarmonica horse.
I wasn't SR shaving back when Filarmonicas weren't popular, but I find it hard to believe they were considered average shavers. I've had/shaved with a few Ducks (never a wonderedge) and none of them have held a candle to any of the Filarmonicas. And with the Filly you're often getting more steel.
In my opinion, if the thing outperforms its competitors, then it's certainly bound to cost more. The fact that a few years ago they were undiscovered or underappreciated doesn't really amount to a hill of beans.
The price of a Filarmonica 14 EPBD ($300, on average for unused NOS) is justified when you look the prices on Wackers, for example. More often than not, those are priced over $300 (I own one), and my experience is that the shaves are not as good (in fact, not even as good as some Pumas, for example, in the $150 price range). And this is not to justify what I've paid for Filarmonicas because I've gotten them for less than the going rate every time.
My point is that in any market prices fluctuate based on popularity and quality. To call something unjustified when a lot of people are willing to vouch for it invalidates the statement, IMO.
I'm taking Filarmonica to the grave! I can't say the same for a DublDuck. Anybody want to let me borrow a WonderEdge for a couple weeks :)
I was lucky enough to have the RAD before the vintage Fillys went out of sight in price. Got most of the 5 I've got in the $100 to $150 range. All are excellent shavers on a level with any Solingen made razor I've shaved with. I haven't gotten any of the recent examples that Classic sells but I've heard good reports about them on the forum.
I saw these earlier today and it blew my mind. I was half tempted to fire off an email asking what the heck he was thinking, but better judgment prevailed.
I dunno, no shave is worth that to me. I mean one idea for shaving with a straight to me, is saving money at some point from not having bought cartridge refills...well sorta..
Sheesh. At that price, it belongs in a safety deposit box...
Funny, I see guys throwing a ridiculous price on razor's to see what will happen. If they sell, cool. If they don't sell than they can hold on to them. I also think it's kind of a joke to "ebayer's" since all these ducks are going for hundreds of dollars at times.
A few months back a pair of NOS wonderedges in different auctions went for ~$1100 and ~$750. At the same time.
And that is the point of capitalism and economy- an item is worth what someone is willing to pay. So if someone pays $350 for a duck, its worth that to them. If no one buys it at that price, they will lower it gradually until it sells. Just like here on the classifieds.
He's selling another one for cheap :P
