i have read many threads on how different razors like to finish off on different stones, i own a 1/4 hollow wacker, some wedge sheffields, dd goldedge,henckle,boker,griffon,torrey,and i have a set of naniwa hones,1000- 5000-8000-12000. my question is do i need a coti or some other finish stone for this list of razors,or the naniwas should handle the job?
IMO you have all you need. Maybe not all you want ...:) The HAD can get a hold of you as bad as the RAD .... take it from me ... I know. :boohoo:
Well, are your razors shaving well? If yes, then you don't need anything else. If no, then... well you're probably doing something wrong... or you might have HAD...
What happens is... you read the forum about how great a natural coticule is and what great shaving edges they give... then it is the Escher .... but you need one in every color .... I don't even want to start on the Nakayamas. Asagis, karasu, this one and that one ... It will break the bank and I was doing fine when all I had was a Norton 4/8. :rolleyes: but it's a lot of fun and keeps life interesting. :)

You know I really would be fine if that was all I had. I didn't know it then but I know it now. OTOH, I wouldn't change having all these hones and I'm glad I have them. Variety is fun and it does keep life interesting. If biz ever picks up I'm going for the J-nats. :beer1:Quote:

HAD is worse... there's only so many razors you can have before you start wondering if you'll ever get around to shaving with your next purchase...
You can always find a use for more hones. ;)
you will very well get along with the naniwas and increasing skill :)
Donīt get too much into that "every razor needs itīs hone thing"
I got cunfused over it myself and now wonder how I came up with this idea.
If the skill is right you will be able to hone 99% of all (good) razors on your naniwas
I think you have enough stones to keep your razors sharp. Collecting and learning about the differences of various stones is another subject.
You have enough stones to get you where you need to be. I do wonder if maybe a wool felt hanging strop with CO2 wouldnt hurt for that final touch! :)
