buffing horn scales
after soaking horn scales in neetsfoot oil and sanding with 1000 grit, do you buff with a plain foam pad or do you use so type of compound. i have been restoring cars and collisions for 33 years and know all about buffing paint and clearcoats but i never buffed HORN !! thanks

I generally use a soft felt pad buff on slow speed and just buff to a lustre. Horn takes heat pretty well so it's not as fraught as doing celluloid but try not to get them too hot - the shine tends to disappear. Good luck!

Tripoli compound - makes them look like glass. You can get away without the oil-soaking sometimes, too.
