569 Dubbers Str8 Razor
Has anyone here heard of a Dubbers (2 dots above the u) str8 razor? On one side of the tang it reads '569 Dubbers' (with 2 dots above the u) and on the other side it says 'Finest Sheffield Steel Forged & Real Hollow Ground In Germany'. I Googled it but got no useful info on it. I picked it up at a local antique shop for $5.00 because one of the scales was broke. I just Super Glued it back together so I could clean and hone it up to use until I can make a set of scales for it, with the fancy spine I'm thinking Brazilian Cherry. Will post picks when finished. BTW it's not a bad shaver.

Well guys, I finished that Dubbers but due to equipment (planer) access was unable to go the Brazilian Cherry for the scales. I had some Bubinga laying around already the correct thickness so I went with it instead. Sealed them with 2 coats Min Wax Natural Finish Stain followed by four coats clear satin then finished with Turtle Wax. Now instead of just shaving good it looks good too! (Sorry about the bad pics, its one of those rainy, dreary days so lighting sucks)
BTW, I saw another Dubbers for sale on eBay this weekend, including mine that's only two I've seen so these babies are extremely scarce if not rare.

Hey guys, appreciate the comments. I have done several str8 razor restores over the past year or so but I think this one is by far the best yet. I have a couple albums here of some of what I've done so far. I have mainly been doing this for personal use, but the 'not so good' shavers I have sold to a collector in Florida, kind of testing the waters if you will, to see if I could make a hobby of this. It has been a lot of fun, and interesting, so far.
Croaker,
Gave her a test shave last evening and well, not bad, but she needs some more caressing. I believe if I treat her right she'll do a good job. If not, she'll have to go...............
Slartibartfast,
The rough sanding to get the final shape was done on a belt sander, of course, but yes, the finish sanding was all done by hand, starting with 220 grit then 400 and finally 600. I usually finish with 1000 grit but didn't on this one......don't know why, brain fart I guess.
A special 'Thanks" to you guys for your comments and the fact that this is a very relaxing hobby, I have decided to go forward with something I've been working on for several months and is still in the beginning stages; buying, selling and restoring str8 razors, thus the signature....CPR4Str8s.
