VOTE: Black or Blond
I'm gonna get one of these for my first starter razor. I'm torn between the two, and I'll go with which ever of the two I like most, but just for fun I'm putting it to a vote. Which one looks better, black or blond?

sinse theres no option for brunette ill go with the blonde :P
-
I like the black. It just looks... a little more badass somehow.
-
Those do not appear to be identical. The 'blonde' so to speak appears to be wider than the black handled Dovo. Perhaps it is just the picture, but the blonde looks to be 6/8 if the black handled one is a standard 5/8.
The shoulder on the blonde looks to be double, whereas the black handled one is single.
If these points are true, I would personally go for the blonde. If they are identical in all ways other than the colour of the handle, then it will make very little difference and it is really down to you!
I would rescale it anyway as I am not a fan of plastics, although if you are basing your decision to select one of the razors soley based on looks as your OP enquires, I prefer the black handle as it has a third pin.
Most important thing is you buy the razor shave ready, and get a decent strop, brush and soap or cream.
-
Personally, I'd go for the black.
But you also have the option of rescaling it, as Scipio says. Gssixgun does excellent re-scaling, just check out his posts for some of the work he has done..!
SRD also sell scale kits, and so does The Invisible Edge here in the UK, so you can buy a set and rescale it yourself.
-
I prefer the blone -- I think it looks more elegant.
-
The black one. Pure and simple. The black one gives a more classic look, and yet still has a sinister, tough, and masculine effect; All at the same time. The black scales do it all.
-
Based on the colour choices alone, there was a time when I definitely would have went with the black. My first razor was black and yes, it's a classic, go-to colour. Since that time, however, I've accumulated so many razors with black scales that they now look boring to me. Still, if you've yet to be overwhelmed by black razors, I say go for the black.
Ah, the Betty vs. Veronica debate. It even crosses over to razors.
-
My first straight was the blonde, just like that in 5/8.
+1 on Scipio's comment about making sure you get it shave ready, and get a good brush, soap/cream, etc. Mine came from Vintage Blades and was honed by Mr. Abrams. I got it in a set with brush, strop, soap mug, etc. I have been very happy with it, and still use it on a regular basis. All things being equal though, it really comes down to what color you like the best.
-
Get both. I know you want to. :)
-
The top Black one isn't the current version... There is no third pin in the current models of Dovo Best Quality, it's an internal Blade Rest... The DBQ in black looks EXACTLY like the blonde picture, only in black... The shoulder of the blade is the same, everything. Just a differeing color.
I have black, I like it, it looks sweet.
Make sure you get it in 6/8ths though, if that's how you swing... I got a 5/8ths, then a 6/8ths Gold Dollar... 6/8ths is so much more user friendly...

Zack,
I think that razor comes in white, too. The color of purity: very nice. Have we already voted on size? I can't remember. How about a brush, soap, mug, strop, after shave, etc?

Black or Blond
My dear Salaszch,
In this case, I would opt for the blond. No, I would rather call it cream. For this razor, the cream handle seems to paint a more traditional look, and I prefer that.
In the end, however, go with you feel matches your personality. Either way, you will not go wrong. That is a good razor, honed by the noble Lynn. Good luck.
Regards,
Obie

The black is classic and goes with everything.
-
I find the cream handle to fit that razor better then the black. Also 2 pin looks better then the 3 pin the black uses for such thin scales.
-
Personally, I prefer black handles. Of the other differences noted between the razors, I prefer a single ground shoulder (like on the black) and a 6/8 razor (like the blonde).
But unless you're buying the razor for me, none of that matters...
-
I have the black handle, but the whole time I was waiting I thought I had bought the blonde.
Mr. Blonde's razor had a black handle if that helps at all.
-
I think I like the blonde better, but the black one I like the 3rd pin...
-
Like Otto said, get both.. my first post. cherry
-
Well of course I want to get both, but then I have to hear my wife complain about me putting too much into my new hobby/obsession.
As to the comments about rescaling, why? What kind of scales would be better?
-
-
Personally, I like the black. Blonde looks nice too though.
-
Black - it never goes out of style.
-
I'm gonna go with the Black in 5/8.
-
The blond looks much better.
-
-
-
Black even though I don't like plastic.
-
I have a best in blonde, I like it a lot. I do like 3 pins though.
Still, most of the razors you see are black, go with something different.
-
Just ordered my Dovo Best Quality in Black. Cant wait to get it. I will be so glad to get rid of my disposable stra8.

Vote: Black or Blond
My dear Zalazch,
Black or white scales, that makes little difference. What matters most is that you have done the right thing by getting the razor.
I am sure the gentlemen at SRP will agree with me: you will not regret your decision to shave with a straight razor. Have patience. Use care. Enjoy learning the art.

Obie

Congrats on your choice... and +1 on what Obie said!

I already have a black handled str8 so to balance out I would get the blonde.
