Got a razor at the antique store

Look at what I just picked up at the antique shop:

its a King Cutter. on the tang it says H Bocker & Co and I got it for $8 Its in decent shape, just needs to be cleaned up and such. The scales are even pretty nice. This is my first straight so I'm excited to get it cleaned up.

PS I'm a new guy... havent shaved with a straight yet, doing the DE thing right now.

I'm thinking you got a good deal, I'm a beginner too, only have been shaving for a few months but anywhere you see Boker straights they are expensive. Hopefully, it won't be too awful expensive to clean it up an get it honed, and you will be good to go!

Here is my take: As King Cutters go (they are a dime a dozen on ebay) it is not in great condition (as a collector piece). However... at $8, for you first razor I think you did outrageously well (provided there are no issues- warped spine, cracks, etc). It should clean up real well and take a great edge. Better than what I learned with!

Welcome to SRP. You may have done alright and you may not have. The corrosion around the edge will tell the tale. If it can be honed down to good steel you're golden but if it is pitted too deeply in the bevel it will just keep leaving holes and chips as you go. One way or the other if you're going to have that razor done by a pro I wouldn't invest more into it than simple honing to shave ready.
