Anyone heard of Birko
I got this Birko No50 5/8 with a barber hone I bought on ebay. I thought the razor was almost not worth bothering with, but today I cleaned it up a little to reveal a pretty cool etching on the blade and it also says made in Solingen. So I might make my next project, but if any of you guys have any opinions of the brand it may help me decide how much effort to dedicate to it.
Thanks

I have a Birko, but I haven't gotten around to honing it yet.

According to Goins Birko was in business in Solingen between the years of 1930 - 1950. Most Solingen razors are made to a very high standard and you can usually depend on getting a good product.

Keep sanding and polishing, I bet that will make a pretty blade and probably a great shaver once hone up.

Here's what I could find:
Otto Birkhofen, Solingen-Wald, Wiedenkamperstrasse 18 in 1939. Brand names: 'Albertoblade', 'Birko', 'Doppelschmied', 'OBW', 'Polo', 'Thonoco', 'Umberto'.

G'day baldy, do you remember if she ended up being an alright shaver? I just picked up one in pretty bad shape but a no1 and was wondering the same thing. To restore immediately n put her to work or to put her in the rainy day pile of steel.

I have a Birko electric Jug :rofl2:
Goin Birko.....

I don't know about the brand, but I have got 4 and 2 of them with fairly etched spine.
Good old Solingen shavers. Take care and take care of it.
